The occurrence of a Muslim man getting married for the 2nd or more time without the knowledge of his first wife isn’t new in a society like ours. For whatever reasons they claim, Muslim men are given a right to marry over a wife, but that has certain requirements i.e., the approval of your first wife being the foremost requirement. South Asian Muslim men, however, usually revoke the requirement and use the Islamic ruling of marrying over a wife for their personal reasons/benefits.

This Is What Happened In an Issue Narrated by a Woman In Saudi Arabia

According to the narrator of the story, this event took place in Masjid e Nabwi, Madinah.

She mentions how there were women offering prayer in Masjid e Nabwi till they noticed a Pakistani woman in her mid-50s standing, worried and crying. The ladies went up to her and inquired about her distress. The Pakistani woman mentioned that her husband left her because he was cheating on her, and she doesn’t understand where to go next.

The woman who tried to help her then took her to the authorities of the Masjid e Nabwi where she asked the officers to help the Pakistani woman. While the officers and the Pakistan woman were communicating in Urdu, the narrator of the story noticed how the men, in their mid-30s, were laughing at the Pakistani woman.

She then asked the Pakistani woman to translate and she said, “they are calling me a drama queen.” They humiliated her more than the situation she was because of her husband who chose another woman over her, that too in a different country.

If you start talking about how Islam gives a man the RIGHT to marry another woman, Islam ALSO talks about how a man is responsible for keeping his wife happy. If you start quoting Hazrat Muhammad (SAWW) for marrying more than once, then you better quote him for his attitude towards Hazrat Ayesha (RA) and his other wives as well.
