Ever since the death of Shahzeb Khan in 2012, the streets of Karachi have been spilled with young blood. One after another, young boys have lost their lives in Pakistan’s metropolitan city for a host of different reasons.
The most recent death in the list if of 19-year-old Intezar Ahmed, a formal City School student who was currently studying in Malaysia. Last week, young Intezar was shot at 16 times, with three bullets hitting him and taking his life.
The incident had become very confusing and the mysterious circumstances of Intezar’s death were being investigated. As reported, Intezar was murdered by officials of the ACLF (Anti-Car Lifting Cell).
While Intezar traveled on Khayaban-e-Ittehad with a female friend, allegedly known to be Madiha Kayani, Intezar was forced to meet his Maker. Ever since the shooting happened, police had been tracing the girl who had accompanied Intezar, as she was the only eye witness of the incident.
Finally, after a week long investigation, the girl has been traced and she has presented her version of the incident. According to the girl, she was traveling with Intezar and they had just got two burgers from a restaurant and were cruising on main Ittehad.
Soon after, a friend of Intezar met him on the road, both shook hands and bid farewell. “Shortly afterwards, a car came in front of ours, followed by the arrival of another car and a motorcycle. Our vehicle was stopped and a few individuals peeked inside,” said the girl.
“The man, who peeked into their vehicle, made some gesture, after which the vehicle behind their car moved a little backwards. I inquired Intezar what is happening, but he didn’t say anything. When Intezar moved his car forward, the firing began.”
“I kept asking Intezar what’s happening, but he didn’t reply and the car came to a halt after a bullet hit Intezar,” the girl informed investigators.
The girl then got out of the car and took a rickshaw from the same road, from where she went straight to her house, and informed her family of the incident. Intezar’s father, who has seen the CCTV video of his sons murder, says that the higher-ups of the police are involved in his son’s murder.
One police official stated that when the ACLC officers saw a girl in the car, they should have never opened fire, something that is contrary to their training and general rules of humanity. No matter what Intezar had done, he did not deserve to be shot at in the given circumstances.
Friends and family also suggest that his murder might be an act of revenge as Intezar had a fight with children of some influential people a few days before his death. As the case starts to unfold, civil society also demands #JusticeForIntezar.
