Although human beings are the most strong entities in the world, they often fell prey to drugs so they could have satisfaction. Drugs are the substances which have physiological and psychological effects on human beings.

In Peshawar, students are heavily addicted to drugs. The student of third-year in a Peshawar university is addicted to ice and his addiction has caused him a lot. He is suffering from alzheimer disease that causes a slow decline in memory and other mental capacities.

The student himself did not know about ice when he started taking it. The student told Samaa news that he had difficulty in studying so a friend told him to try ice. The addict said, “When I tried to study, I’d feel sleepy then a friend of mine recommended I try this.”

Ice or crystal meth is a drug that speeds up the brain’s functions. The scientific name of the drug is Methamphetamine C10H15N. Its duration of action is 10-20 hour and action liability is extremely high. Moreover, it is called the “Club Drug”. It deprives one of sleep and immensely enhances one’s mental capabilities.

In an interview to Samaa news, Dr. Khalid Mufti said, “ice doubles your energy levels and you can keep awake on it for 24 to 48 hours. But you crash afterward and it wrecks your system,” While talking about its use in Peshawar, the doctor said, “When this surfaced in Peshawar about two to two and a half years earlier, it was just with elite kids because it was expensive”.

The government of Pakistan is taking action against the ice dealers. Recently, it has proposed life sentence for the ice deals coupled with 10,000,000 rs in a  proposed draft bill. Besides, all the law enforcement authorities are trying hard to address the rise of ice use.
