Prime Minister Imran Khan recently stated that the former finance minister Asad Umar will re-join the cabinet soon and called him an ‘important asset’ of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Imran Khan while talking to a senior journalist at the prime minister’s office mentioned that another cabinet reshuffle is to take place and it is imminent; he also stated that the ones whose performance will be up to par will remain and the rest will be relieved from their positions.

In PM’s exact words “only those who perform will remain while the rest will be sent packing.”

Asad Umar was removed from the cabinet as a result of a major cabinet reshuffle

Imran Khan offered Asad another portfolio and that was of energy ministry that he refused to take on and resigned from the federal cabinet as the finance minister. This lead to speculations that he may have been upset with the development, that was later denied ardently by Asad Umar himself.

Prime minister on Friday when talking about Asad’s re-joining the federal cabinet said, “Asad Umar is intelligent and he is a precious asset. He will return to the cabinet soon,”

Regarding the non-elected members being the part of the cabinet, Imran Khan said, “I have to deliver performance. It does not matter if someone is elected or not. I am including people with experience […] wherever I find good (capable) people, I will appoint them.” Also added, “In the absence of experts, we are assigning technocrats,”

NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) will not be signed by the Prime Minister even if it costs him his position

However, he has strongly pointed out his resolve of not signing another NRO as Musharraf did in the past. In Imran’s own words, “The opposition wants NRO from the government” also firmly mentioning, “The people taking decisions about the NROs are those who wanted to save their power. I will not give any NRO”
