“Society, society, society!!!” Common word? heard most? Yeah, that’s right. Society is all that matters now to each and every single citizen. You leave your dreams behind just because of what society will say or how society might react to it. Now, when a student grows up, gets mature enough to make a choice of what he or she wants to further study, that is where this thought arises. This is when their dreams are somewhere left behind. Other than society, the pressure of parents is one thing which confuses a student between his dreams and his parents.

In 9th grade, when I chose Commerce for myself and every single person I knew was like, “commerce tou wo bachay letay hain jo na-laik hon” or eve, in the beginning, some of my teachers used to say, “ab commerce opt kiya hai tou kuch krke bhi dekhao warna commerce walay kuch kartay nahi hain” and I still remember how the staff members used to look at us… How the management used to deal with us… We were dishonored. The self-confidence was all vanished. Some of the students including me started believing that we cannot do anything because we are Commerce students.

I used to come home sad and sort of low. I didn’t know if it was a good decision or not. I couldn’t lift up myself to achieve higher or to prove everyone wrong. I developed some negative behavioral issues and later was diagnosed with a migraine. If I get brutally honest then, I lost hope in myself. I even flunked 2 of my main exams and scored less in other subjects.

Observing this, my parents boosted me up, they never lost hope in me. My father played an important role in this. He once sat beside me, put his hand on my head and said, “Dunya se doctors or engineers tou khatam hosakte hain lekin accountants or bankers khatam hogaye tou dunya kese chalegi?” He made me realize what importance subject of Commerce holds in actual. He helped me in achieving good and higher marks. He told me that it’s okay if I’ve flunked my last tests because I was too scared of the fact that I might flunk them again. My parents told me that they believe in me, that I can do much better and I can prove everyone wrong.

So this is to all those students who’ve opted for Commerce but have lost their self-confidence because of what worst things society says You are different and what you’ve opted for is amazing. Don’t lose hope in yourself because every single person on this earth is unique. All of us have different capabilities. It’s not necessary that if you aren’t good in studies you aren’t good at anything. You just have to unfold every layer of yourself and realize your value!!
