Two professors from Karachi University were accused of behaving inappropriately with their female students but the allegations were declared fake by the university.

The two faculty members belonging to the Mass Communication department were accused by six students of the same department that later was considered false accusation by the varsity as the complaint filed wasn’t officially registered by the students themselves and bore no original signatures from the victims. Upon probing the matter further, the real person behind the complaint turned out to be a male student who is already facing disciplinary action.

The complaint alleged that the female students received inappropriate messages on WhatsApp by the faculty members in question. However, the complaint lodged had no supporting pieces of evidence.

Karachi University’s spokesman said that the complaint had no solid foundation as it lacked evidence of any kind, not even screenshots of the conversations to prove their case. Further, he added that the proper procedure of filing wasn’t followed that requires it to be made personally by the actual victims and them to appear before the respective authorities of the university. He continued stating that the concerned body reserves the right to take actions against false complaints. A meeting is to take place on Friday where the matter will be sorted by not pursuing the fake case and taking action against the student who filed the complaint, according to the spokesman.

Karachi University has zero tolerance policy with complaint boxes installed in every department

The varsity spokesperson said that Karachi University has adopted a zero tolerance policy regarding these sensitive matters and they have complaint boxes in every department and places for easy access. However, as mentioned that they do not allow fake allegations to be dismissed easily considering their falsehood. In fact, the person who made false claims is strictly dealt with.

One of the female students out of the six came forward on a private news channel via telephone

She said, “I was in my first semester at Karachi University. I was a new student and did not know about the professor’s ‘reputation’. I got a job offer from somewhere and I wanted to discuss the opportunity with the professor. He told me to message him on WhatsApp.”

She continued saying, “He then asked me [on WhatsApp] where I lived, how I commuted to the university, about my family, my father and brother. Then he asked me whether I was a friendly person or a serious type of person. Then he suggested we become friends.”

The student during the interview mentioned how several of her friends have gone through a similar experience. Moreover stating that she was invited by the professor to his office alone but she went with a few of her friends. The male student, Tihmas Ali Khan filed the complaint on their behalf which as far we know has been dismissed as “fake” and the varsity committee will be taking action against him, according to the sources.
