Diamer: at least a dozen schools were burnt overnight in the Diamer district of Gilgit Balistan in incidents that have shown a dark, repressive side of this country yet again. According to the reports of Diamer SP Roy Ajmal, the residents reported the police about the 12 schools that were set on fire overnight. It was shared that half of these schools were girls-only institutes.
The police, however, has yet to share the investigation details at it is still on-going. The following are the schools that were burnt for reasons unknown, but evidently a hate-crime against girls being sent to schools:
Girls Primary School located in Ronay, Chilas; Girls School Takya; Social Action Programme (SAP) Primary School in Hudur area; Primary School in Tabor village of Darel Valley; SAP Primary School in Tabor, Darel; Girls Primary School Sheegay Manikal, Darel Valley; Girls Primary School Galee Bala, Tangir Valley; Primary School Galee Bala, Tangir Valley; Girls Primary School Khanbary; Girls Primary School Gyal Village.

Strongly condemn the attack on girls' schools in Chilas, Gilgit-Baltistan. These attacks appear to be an attempt to bar families from sending their girls to school, but such cowardly attacks reinvigorate our commitment to girls' education. Perpetrators should be punished severely pic.twitter.com/nh4L5rhLBh

Is this how threatened the society feels when it comes to giving education to the upcoming female lot? Is it how progressive we claim our country has become? Six all-girls-schools were set on fire…this is the same threat Malala Yousafzai was exposed to.
Justice needs to be served. Burning down schools just because a few locals thought females should not be given education is an act worth punishment.
