As for the moment, it seems that no positive news would be erupting from the volcano of stories in Pakistan. Since the last 2 months, thanks to social media, the people of the country have been subject to a rude awakening.

The news of a young and beautiful medical student murdered for refusing a marriage proposal in Kohat has been going viral. Along with the news, a short video clip of the girl, Asma Burki, has also gone viral on social media, which was posted by her brother.

According to police, young Asma Burki, a third year medical student studying in Abbotabad, was in her hometown Kohat for vacations. While returning home with her sister-in-law, as soon as Asma reached home, she found one Mujahid Afridi along with his accomplice Sajid, was standing outside her house.

When Mujahid saw Asma, he took his pistol out and shot her three times. Young Asma could not fight her wounds and succumbed to the injuries before getting any treatment.

The video which has gone viral on Facebook, tragically, sees Asma taking her last breaths, as her brother films her while her eyes roll to the back of her head due to immense blood-loss. In the clip, Asma’s brother asks her, who shot her, who was the reason for her condition. Three times, she repeats, Mujahid Afridi.

The heart-wrenching clip sees Asma barely able to say her murderer’s name. The reason of the dispute? Asma had rejected Mujahid Afridi’s hand in marriage and did not want to get married to the influential. Meanwhile, the victim’s family have told police that the culprit is a relative of a local PTI leader. Mujahid wanted to marry Asma and was putting pressure on the family to accept the proposal, as per the police.

This is not the first time that young girls have been murdered in Pakistan’s rural areas for rejecting marriage proposals. All over the country, exemplary in all four provinces, influential people have always tried to subdue weak girls, by pressurizing their families or threatening them of rape and acid attacks if they were not to marry them.
