The Pakistani youth and growing drug culture and awareness of the country go hand in hand. Ever since the 70s’, Pakistan has sort of accompanied the globalizing drug culture and different mediums of addictions, being home to every ill available.
One mode of addiction, however, had been missing in Pakistan. We’re talking about Marijuana, also known as Cannabis and Weed. Although Pakistan is home to a humongous quantity of Hashish (Chars), Marijuana is thought of as a rare item in the country.
Lately, all the big cities have had an influx of Marijuana all of a sudden, with the drug being available for consumer purchase at expensive rates of around 3-5k a gram. The other day, the Deputy Collector of the International Mail Department, Mr. Shoaib, seized around 30 ounces (868 grams) of high-quality Marijuana at the Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
As per a viral post on social media, officials intercepted an international courier delivery of two parcels, which carried the 30 ounces of Marijuana and were to be delivered to a local address in Karachi.
The delivery was being made from Germany to Karachi and the person that the consignment was to be delivered to, will be held responsible. This is not the first incident in recent times that Marijuana has been seized during a delivery to Karachi. A couple of days ago, Customs Officials at Jacobabad seized Marijuana worth Rs. 15 million from a bus that was on its way to Karachi from Quetta.
The growing influx of Marijuana and its customers in Pakistan is not only alarming but dangerous as well. However, many countries in the world have legalized the herb, citing its medical benefits.
