In the era of social media, even the slightest mistake can lead to a person’s downfall and probably, the end of their career. The example of Patari CEO who was highlighted for his mistreatment of women speaks volumes about the power of social media.
What social media is capable of can be best exhibited by the case of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Silakot, Rana Nadeem Tariq. Two members of a gang that blackmails people after making their objectionable videos have been arrested, according to the Punjab Police.
Recently, a video went viral on the internet which showcased the DSP stripped with a naked boy sat beside him. Just before the video ended, the DSP had tried to regain his consciousness, due to a man walking on the two men sat on the sofa.
When the incident sparked fire on social media, the IG Punjab had summoned DSP Rana Nadeem to present his position. After which, the DSP was suspended from duty until the investigation was completed. However, the DSP wanted to prove his innocence and he stated that he was trapped and blackmailed by a gang he had previously worked against.
DSP Rana Nadeem said that when he was posted in Mandi Bahauddin as SDPO, he had booked 4 men for running a gang of blackmailing, deceit and theft. This incident is revenge for his diligence to his work. After detailing the cases he registered against Shehzad Hassan and unnamed suspects, the gang sought out for revenge against the DSP.
As for the incident, Rana said that he had gone to Gujranwala to attend a wedding, where he also met an informant named Noman. Their rendezvous lead to Noman offering him a cup of drugged tea, which became the reason of the video. As per the DSP, the whole plan was masterminded by Shehzad Hassan, the man he had previously booked on similar charges.
After Rana expressed his desire to leave, sane but groggy, three men entered the room and started stripping him, while Noman did the same. Then, the gang started filming their video. Next day, the blackmailing began. Rana tried and persuaded the gang to not publish his video, but he failed to do so. He said that he could not contact senior officers due to the nature of the video and how embarrassing it was for him.
People on social media have also sided with DSP Rana Nadeem, stating that he was one of the very few honest and loyal officers in the Punjab Police Force, while others have questioned the incident, saying that it was easy to present such a story after one has been caught red-handed.
