The Light Blue Jumper is a Humorous Sci-Fi Fantasy book by a Pakistani novelist Sidra F. Sheikh. Before giving a review of the mentioned novel, I would like to tell that I have been looking for an English humorous book by a Pakistani author for some time but hadn’t been much successful.

Most of the Pakistani author’s work was far too serious… And those listed as humorous were more satirical or sarcastic than lighthearted fun. So as soon as I came to know about this book, I ordered it even though I am not much into the sci-fi. I am glad to say I wasn’t disappointed. Whimsical comedy of errors in the book gave me some of the best laughs.

The story starts on inter-space where a group of rebels are delighted to bump into a guy with mysterious powers from planet Zaaron. The prophecy predicts that a Zaaronian guy will make them win the war against interplanetary despotic regime IPF. However, this guy is a very naïve who doesn’t have clue about his superpower but he works as an advanced weapon developer for IPF who occupied his planet illegally and tried to kill him.

Moreover, like all the other main characters he thinks of himself as the “Master of Knowledge” rather than the owner of Super-power of Jumping between time and space. Instead of getting training to control his powers, he tries to train one of his trainers. With his misunderstandings will he really be able to help the rebels win their battle against oppression and imperialism? You will have to read the book to find out.

This book is totally different from other books by Pakistani authors. It isn’t bound by any culture or region and can be read by any kind of audience. Although this is the debut novel of the author, she is able to beautifully craft an interesting narrative which introduces characters and situations tactfully making it all very simple and easy to comprehend. The story development is neither boring nor too fast.

The novel sizzles with the most refreshing and wittiest jokes I heard in a while. The comical situations give fits of laughter. The humor in this book is totally non-offensive and clean so you can let your little ones read the book as well.

The only flaw in the book I found is that the story seemed a bit weak as the novel develops. Other than that it is a brilliant piece of work and I really recommend it to all the hardcore bookworms and casual book readers. I am keeping my fingers crossed to get a sequel soon.
