War. The endless war, bombings, surgical strikes, firings, civilians running, families are torn apart, blood, rubble, and death everywhere. It is always endless. The countries of the third world are battling similar conditions on a daily basis. The families living there were forced to flee their homelands for the sake of their lives, millions of refugees cross borders in unfamiliar places every day. A family is torn apart, all scattered in different parts of the world. This has now become the norm for a lot of families of Syria, Iraq, Libya and other war-stricken zones. Refugees escaping countless horrors just to be thrown into refugee camps; does that seem fair? Does that seem humane?

Asylum seekers and refugees, currently living in refugee camps go through an ordeal every day. In the present day, refugees are now a specific group out of the total world population. The number of refugees is growing day by day with no hope of them decreasing in the near future. Refugees are different from migrants in that they have been forced to leave their countries and have not done so by choice. After leaving behind their motherlands, refugees are subjected to a fate that leaves little room for them to have a dignified life.

With little opportunity to earn, refugees are stuck in a limbo until they are either rehabilitated in their host countries or find a way back to their hometowns. The living conditions of refugees are something that is not discussed.Generally; it is thought that the problems of asylum seekers are over after they reach a refugee camp but that could not be further from the truth. Living in cubicle-like quarters with no walls or ceilings, families are living in conditions that are thoroughly unfair to them after their horrible plight. This now is a stigma that we are not concentrating on and which needs our utmost attention.

Though host countries and humanitarian organizations help in providing refugees with the basic necessities of life, they fail to provide them with comfort. We take into account the refugees who have been split up from their families. Numerous stories of numerous refugees are before us. In reference to the article I have chosen, let us analyze the living conditions of the family that is the subject of that specific article.

It is clear that the living conditions at their shelter at Tempelhof leave a lot to be desired. With five young children and a baby on the way, the couple is worried about their living and upkeep in the long term. Though they are believed to be safe from the conditions back in Iraq, their hometown, they cannot dismiss the worry they feel at the prospect of long-term living in shelters.

According to a report by UNHCR in 2015, there are 19.5 million people who have been forced to leave their homes due to civil wars and conflicts leading to uninhabitable conditions. This whooping figure very aptly shows that the refugee crisis is now more serious than ever with no condition or the prospect of improving over time, least of all in the near future, For the first time in history, the refugee count has been as high as it is now with the numbers steadily increasing. The rate of displaced people and asylum seekers have doubled in the past few years with the Syrian Civil War being one of the worst and severest cases ever.

With the huge influx of refugees to various host countries, shelters that were built were quickly filled as more and more refugees poured in. Some of the refugees live outside the shelters provided by the governments of host countries, thus presenting humanitarian aid agencies and relief organizations with a whole new set of complex problems. This condition is now alarming as organizations are also running out of space to keep refugees in. This has particularly become a challenge for displaced families with very young kids.

One of the many problems in this crisis is that of the sealing off of some migration routes like a Balkan route to Western Europe. This leads to an imbalance and unequal distribution of refugees across the countries. Take for example the condition of the refugee population in Germany. The bigger cities experience a larger population and thus face problems in managing the big number of refugees. In contrast, the smaller cities are empty. This is a point that needs to be looked into for not only will this account for the equal distribution of refugees but also for rations and other facilities being equally divided into camps.

Another aspect of the refugee crisis is the impact on the health of refugees and asylum seekers. After months being sea bound, refugees are pushed by the dozen into cramped camps. This leads to a severe problem not only in health but sanitation and hygiene. Refugees also continue to live in places which have been cleared out as shelters which mean that they have to survive on streets. This leads to a high count of fungal infections and other filth-borne diseases.

In such places, whatever food is available is shared which then very obviously leads to the exchange of germs thus accelerating already existing health problems and further promoting unsanitary and unhygienic conditions. Lack of insufficient water leads to refugees consuming water that has not been treated properly or is unpurified, which further goes on to cause cholera. According to a study by UNHCR, about half of the total refugee camps in the world are unable to supply refugees with the adequate amount of water needed. These unfavorable and unsavory conditions for refugee camps need our undivided and immediate attention.

Further delving into articles of a similar backstory; articles whose primary subjects are refugees and their living conditions; we can see results of an unsavory nature.Generally, it is imagined that once refugees and asylum seekers crossed borders into a safe country, it marked a new beginning for them. Studies have proven this fact to be wrong.

When studied in depth, different aspects of refugee camps, asylums and shelters, the ones that are usually not discussed often enough; the living conditions of these places. It is evident from all the facts stated above that there is a dearth of adequate living quarters for refugees. The number of refugees outweighs the provided camps and shelters. Too many refugees have been put together like hens in a pen which gives rise to unfavorable living conditions.

These problems can be solved by better coordination amongst the countries. Equal distribution of refugees throughout the continents will make the problems being faced by the refugees and both the host countries, more manageable. In this way, not only will the living conditions of people become better, but they will also have a more likely chance of finding work after having their asylum applications have been reviewed faster.

I also feel that during this process, it must be kept in mind that families should stay together. It is imperative that people fleeing horrific conditions in lieu of better ones stay together with their loved ones instead of them being scattered all around the world and being unable to reach each other. Working together is the only way we can hope to eliminate this crisis.
