Terrorism is a contagious menace afflicting chaos or havoc around the globe and those who oppose this phenomenon must get through profuse losses of casualties, funds, and collateral. No other religious majority has suffered more at the hands of this plague than Muslims but ironically Muslims are the only ones blamed and criticized for being the root cause of this problem.

An alarming incident that occurred this very year was the ‘Rohingya Muslim Massacre‘ in Burma, where the death toll rose to 400 Muslims and the democracy advocate Ms. Aung San Suu Ki, a Nobel Prize winner, stood idly and taking no action to put a stop to this holocaust.

Similarly, the ‘Modi’ government never fails to cease any chance or opportunity of inflicting atrocious torture on Indian Muslims be it in the form of being forced to convert to Hinduism or being burnt alive for consuming beef.

To speak of more recent events, 527 were injured and 59 were shot dead when a gunman opened fire on an ongoing music festival in Las Vegas. It is being called the deadliest mass shooting in Modern U.S history.

The thought-provoking question that arises is that how none of these incidents are termed as terrorist activities? why are these extremists not being called terrorists? Mr. Trump called the Las Vegas shooter  ‘sick and demented’ but not a terrorist. One of the definitions of terrorism includes, “It is the use of violence or threat of violence in the pursuit of political aims, religious, or ideological change.”

It doesn’t matter what cast or religion the terrorists belong to. A Muslim or a non-Muslim, anybody who threatens or propagates terror on the basis of their extreme ideas is a ‘terrorist’. It is high time that the think tanks should rethink about the criterion of the eligibility of a terrorist or the denomination of terrorism.
