Swiss-Pakistani Hamza Mirza receives 2 major Awards at the University of Basel in Switzerland: 1st position in Best Master’s Degree of the Year 2016/17 (awarded by Economics Association of Basel) and Best Master Thesis of the Year 2016/17 (awarded by Cantonal Bank of Basel)

With a total average of 5.8 out of 6.0, Hamza has won 1st position out of around 100 postgraduates in Master of Science in Business and Economics from the University of Basel. The award was handed over by Dr. Stefanie Hof-Seiler, the President of the Economics Association of Basel. At the top of that, his Master thesis, with the highest possible grading of 6.0 out of 6.0, has been awarded the Best Master Thesis of the Academic Year 2016/17 award.

The title of his Master Thesis was: “Biased Measures of Success and Abnormal Distributions: Incentivization or Decision Making?”

The 24-year-old Swiss resident received 2 awards on the 6th of November 2017 during the award ceremony in Basel in front of 700 invited guests. One of the chief guests was Christoph Brutschin, the councilor of Basel. After completing his Master of Science in Business and Economics, the son of an academic family has started with Ph.D. in Financial Accounting from the University of Basel.

Hamza’s roots lie in Pakistan. His story started more than 30 years ago when his dad went to the University of Sheffield for studies and afterward received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the same University. The family of four has its roots in Lahore and lives in Switzerland for more than 30 years now.

Hamza’s parents have played a major role in his whole career. In October 2015 he also received the award for 2nd position in Bachelor of Arts in Business and Economics from University of Basel. This time he gets the 1st position at Master’s level. Today he finally wins those 2 awards and shows that his parents’ hard work, passion, love, and support has finally paid out.
