They say only the brave can enjoy the thrill that speed brings. Others are of the opinion that speed usually thrills but mostly kills. Adrenaline rushes that come with overspeeding on cars and bikes come naturally, it is not for everyone to enjoy.

One such girl from Karachi who does enjoy the experience more than anything keeps riding her bike every day to feel the intensity of speed. Meet Marina, a born-and-raised Karachiite who loves speeding and breaking stereotypes.

Pakistan, a country where women hardly drive, let alone ride bikes, also have people like Marina, who defy all odds and make sure they do what they want. Marina is a stunt-girl who rides a 200 CC heavy bike. Marina loves playing with danger, doing and learning different stunts.

Marina’s thrilling nature was showcased in a viral video made by a Pakistani news channel. Wearing a jacket and jeans, Marina plans on breaking all stereotypes that society has bound women with. From doing wheelies to ‘look-mom-no-hands’ on the bike’s handlebar, Marina knows that this thrill comes with a price. Every year, hundreds of people in Pakistan die after falling off their motorbikes.

Leaning on her motorbike at high speed is one of Marina’s favorite stunts as a rider. “When I first started riding a heavy bike, I used to copy and learn things from an American rider Sarah, who I used to watch on the internet,” said Marina.

“Copying her stunts and technique, I slowly mastered the art. I was not afraid to fall, I just wanted to complete different stunts. After a few experiments and attempts, I got the grip on doing different tricks, learning new techniques,” she added.

Marina now says that when she rides her bike at 50-60kmph, it feels like she’s riding a bicycle. Thus, the only way to finding the perfect adrenaline rush is by overspeeding and doing different stunts.

Even though our patriarchal mindset in Pakistan does not permit women to break stereotypes easily, some young colts find it in themselves to not be sheep and follow everyone else. Instead, they create their own path and destiny, not caring about the society or world.
