With the recent rise in child pornography cases in Pakistan, for the very first time, something has been done by the State to handle this vice from turning into an epidemic.
For the very first time, the Federal Investigation Agency has constituted a special team, which would only monitor and deal cases of child pornography, in a bid to protect our children.
The special team would not only handle child abuse cases in Pakistan, but would also strictly monitor the internet for child pornography, which is either being downloaded, sent or received.
As per a letter from the FIA, all zonal in-charges of the NR3C (National Response for Center of Cyber Crimes) have been asked to furnished detailed reports of cases that may showcase events or child abuse or pornography. Right after the publishing of the notification, a man from Jhang was arrested for being part of groups that shared child pornography.
Prior to the 2015 Kasur child abuse scandal, where over 200 children were involved in child pornography, Pakistan had no such law that contained punishments for holding or sharing child porn. It was only after the case that a law was made. In December, 2015, the National Assembly of Pakistan passed an amendment in the Criminal Law Bill, which aimed to protect children from all sorts of abuse, bringing a 2 to 7 year punishment for offences related to child pornography.
It is reason to believe that the increase of child sexual abuse in Pakistan is because of child pornography. People who watch, share and monetize child porn in Pakistan may be behind these rapes and assaults as well. All this turned ugly after Dr. Shahid Masood, a journalist for Dunya News, claimed that little Zainab’s rapist, Imran Ali, had 40 foreign accounts which paid him in dollars and euros, as he live-streamed the rape of children.
In other countries of the world, pedophiles too are sent to jail for a similar term period. However, scientists and neurologists say that pedophilia, just like schizophrenia and other mental stances, is an illness. In Europe, doctors have recommended giving profiled pedophiles child-sex dolls so that they do not take their frustration out on children, and at the same time, can succumb to their frustrations.
As crazy as the concept sounds, child pornography is shared all over the world, and children are subjected physical torture even in the most learned places in the world.
