The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf, before coming into power, had promised to work for the ghareeb awam, addressing their problems, issues, and giving them a better lifestyle. Finally, it seems that the incumbent government is delivering on them, slowly, but surely.

Even though the country might be going through a minor economic crisis right now, a huge portion of which is due to the work of the last government, there are positive signs in what Imran Khan and his cabinet are trying to deliver.

Most people in Pakistan think when we talk about the poor, it refers to the middle-class. However, a huge majority of the population lives under the poverty line, and within that, there are millions of people who are homeless.

To better things for the most aggrieved, PM Imran Khan has set up a modern, state of the art, quality shelter home in Peshawar which actually gives shades of the tabdeeli that Pakistan deserves.

The shelter home, which has 500 beds, has been renovated and set up with quality products that no government has introduced before. The building has two floors, modern and new rooms and a hall for the homeless who will be living there as well.

The administration of the shelter home has been handed over to the social welfare department, on who the Prime Minister himself will be keeping keen eyes on. Not just this, but the shelter home also has facilities for the disabled people, including ramps to move them around on modern wheelchairs.

A portion of the shelter home has also been kept separate for homeless women, giving shades of emphatic equality when it comes to the vulnerable people in our society. The news suggests that the Prime Minister himself will be inaugurating this shelter home soon, and after this, the KPK government would be working on more shelter homes for the poor.

This set precedent needs to be followed by more shelter homes being constructed in other provinces of the country as well, especially in Balochistan, where poverty runs rampant.

Many governments, before PTI, have come into power, filled their pockets with the peoples’ money and paid no heed to the homeless population of Pakistan. These people, when not helped out, usually turn to crime and hurt the country more than a normal mind can apprehend.

This move of Imran Khan is vastly being lauded on social media and people think that little and slow change is better than no change at all. Do you agree with them?
