Salman Butt, a disgraced figure in Pakistan trying extremely hard to rejuvenate his image, has ended up embarrassing himself again. Salman, who was banned from international cricket and faced several different punishments, is playing first-class cricket again.
In the match between Peshawar and WAPDA, something very unusual happened. The fate of the match was decided by the Mankad incident. Mankad is a term used in cricket named after Vinoo Mankad who first made a run-out while delivering the ball.
The WAPDA-Peshawar game saw something similar. Muhamamd Irfan, standing at the non-striker’s end, jumped the gun early and the bowler had him run-out. At this, after losing, the captain of WAPDA Salman Butt took to Twitter with his very philosophical take on the incident.

After his stance was covered by the ESPN, Jarrod Kimber, a renowned writer for ESPN embarrassed Salman Butt for his comments. He went on to ask Salman Butt that how could he comment on the laws in cricket when he himself ruined the spirit of the game.

Kimber went on to further slate Salman Butt for his comments and stance. He, unfortunately, dragged other players of the Pakistani team in as well, stating that a majority of our players had been fixing the game.
Oh, and remember when under oath Salman said cricket was basically like wrestling. Well the mankad is the most wrestling move in cricket.

As sad as the incident is, Salman Butt should have known that this sort of reaction would come out from the general public as well, not just writers and critics of the game.
However, Salman is happy that he has returned to playing cricket and wants to perform so that he gets a chance to play for Pakistan again. But with his ‘authoritative’ comments on the laws of the game, the irony present is unmistakable.
