I am a friend of Sabika Shaikh, my friends and I have started a petition on Change.org demanding a high profile award to be given to Sabika from the Government of Pakistan and the United Nations Organization for Sabika’s services, doing which she lost her life and was brutally murdered.
Dear Pakistanis, this is the last and the least thing we can do for our Shaheed Sabika Aziz for her bravery and dedication. This is not gonna bring her back to her family but will give them something and something is better than nothing. Sabika and her family deserve this for the sacrifice she made. It is our duty as a nation to get her an award when Malala got it on her services for education for women, then Sabika also deserves this more than anyone.
She went there to get some experience as she wanted to serve in the Foreign Services in future, create a real and positive image of Pakistan and spread cultural peace and I think she succeeded very well in pursuing this goal, as it can be seen really clearly in the interview of her host family at her funeral in Houston.
She wanted to establish cultural peace by teaching America Pakistan’s culture and by herself learning America’s culture. She wanted Pakistan and America to shake hands, be united, live peacefully and flourish. She struggled to make this world a better place where two nations, where two people do not hate each other but love each other.
She taught her acquaintances over there in America and over here in Pakistan how to live life, by showing them the positive side of life, a girl who was acquainted with her in America even said that if it wasn’t for Sabika she wouldn’t have even made it to the end of this year. She was as patriotic as a person should be, never uttered a bad word for her homeland and even when she was going to America through YES she didn’t say that she’s going to America because Pakistan is not safe or because America is better than Pakistan but she said that I’m going there to remove the misconception about my country and my people!
Sabika is quoted as a feminist (yes as a feminist, not a feminazi! She respected men as much as she wanted women to be respected) by a lot of people as she wanted to toil for the betterment of women in the field of education and against hostile behaviors such as honor killing. There may be many more genius students like Sabika out there who have not been found yet but this can serve as an encouragement for them.
This is the least we can do for the Daughter of our Nation who was brutally murdered, while she was on the path of struggle to give something to her country, to her fellow Pakistanis. Please do not let her sacrifice for us go in vain. So far we have above 1000 supporters who have signed the petition.
It’s sad how Sabika was just a hot news for the channels till her body was returned and it’s sad that while Allah granted her the status of a shaheed, we: the people of this country, of this world, can’t even get her an award. We have to do something to make our voice be heard by the decision makers!
