If there’s one thing Pakistan knows about Khadim Hussain Rizvi, it is that he is outrageously confident when delivering sermons and fatwas in any particular situation.
The religious cleric, who found fame after the Faizabad Sit-In against the government on the issue of ‘Namoos e Rasalat’ in the constitution, has been gaining popularity, turning his organization into a political powerhouse.
However, from time to time, Khadim Hussain Rizvi does the unthinkable, and comes out with opinions that might not be accepted everywhere. In a video that has gone viral on the internet, Khadim Hussain Rizvi issues a new fatwa, this time against playing and watching cricket.
The logic, simple: Khadim Rizvi says, “All the games and sports that have been invented by the ‘devils’ is haraam for every Muslim to play and watch. Cricket was invented by the devils, the people who play it have no time for religion, thus it is haraam, along with other sports such as hockey and football.”
He says when you are following the rules of the game, you are following the devils, whom he here means the Westerners. Khadim’s outrageous fatwa further states that whoever likes a follows a particular cricket player as his idol as well is (his favorite word), a pimp.
He says the cricketers are womanizers, alcoholics, and bad people, thus they should not be followed. Not only this, he made claims against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan as well. He says that Imran Khan alleges 30,000 woman are crazy for him, and that he is a pimp, not a cricketer.
He went on to abuse Imran Khan more, calling him things that cannot be mentioned in a civil article. Khadim also took shots at Imran Khan’s cancer hospital, saying that he doesn’t treat cancer, but he causes cancer to the society due to his work.
Khadim Rizvi, in the past year, has gained a lot of popularity in Pakistan, especially after glorifying the death of Salman Taseer’s killer, Mumtaz Qadri. He is of the opinion that anyone who gave his life for the same and respect of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is a martyr. His organization, Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya RasoolAllah has gained thousands of followers alll over the country and Khadim plans on becoming a part of the parliament in the coming 2018 elections.
