Ours is a society full of social vices and taboo incidents, and ignoring that fact is as wrong as committing the obscene crimes that come under these categories. Children, the most adored and loved beings of God, have become subject to heinous targeting in our society.
An incident took place in Karachi, where a man who is thought to be an Imam-e-Masjid, raped a 6-year-old girl in his locality. After the incident, the little girl informed her mother of what had happened, and just how they should, the parents of the girl tried to identify her abuser.
After a couple of days, the girl was able to identify the man who had raped her, and the family lodged an FIR against the culprit. Arrested by the police, the perpetrator was presented in court, where a furious woman reporter from Dawn confronted the rapist and rightly so.
With the camera rolling, the reporter went up to the rapist outside the court and did what the whole nation would expect of her. Furious, she asked the Imam-e-Masjid why had committed such an obscene act, that too a little girl, who was only 6-years-old and had no idea about what was being done to her.
The Imam would not confess to the crime, stating that he was being framed. However, the little girl had identified him only, without any confusion, and after initial police remand, he had confessed his crime.
The report then poured her heart out, saying things that would be on every Pakistani or Muslim’s minds, how an Imam could take shelter of religion and commit heinous acts such as rape. She went on stating that he had not just ruined his life in this world, but also his Aakhirat. The mother of the little child kept crying, and seeing her in this condition, the reporter too broke down in tears. Her anger was evident in the video.
The Imam-e-Masjid offered the little girl’s parents Rs. 10,000 to shut their mouth. The infuriated reported pleaded Pakistan’s institutions that people who commit acts such as rape of little children should be hanged till death, otherwise, this social vice of the society will never end.
