The Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday, along with Zainab’s father and the Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah, hold a press conference to announce that one of the arrested accused person, named as ‘Imran’, has been found guilty. The murderer of 7-year old Zainab, Imran is essentially a serial killer.

“Zainab’s murderer has been caught. His name is Mohammad Imran. He is a 24-year-old resident of Kasur…he is a serial killer,” Shahbaz told a press conference. The Chief Minister reveals that Imran has admitted to all his crimes in a polygraph test that was conducted after his DNA matched the samples.

The press conference took an odd turn when chief minister Punjab requested for a round of applause for the team members including security agencies and government officials. The applause in the presence of victim little Zainab’s father has left the public furious. Many people rant over the CM through social media for this pathetic show of sentimental insensitivity.

Adding fuel to the fire, a pre-press conference footage showed Rana Sanaullah actually dictating Haji Amin (Zainab’s father) about what to do during the press conference. He can be seen in the footage.

Instructing Haji Amin to not to place any other demand other than the punishment of the killer. According to the footage, Rana Sanaullah assures the victim’s father that he will address all the demands separately. These two aren’t the only events that marked this press conference as controversial. Public also took notice of chief minister Shahbaz Sharif aggressively switching off the mic of Zainab’s father during the press conference. The CM’s act obviously reflects that the government of Punjab doesn’t want him to talk freely as per his will.

Here are some of the views social media users expressed over this issue:

The impression that the government is trying to pressurize the victim party has been widespread throughout the country. After the press conference, while talking to a private media channel on the telephone line, Zainab’s father was little reluctant. He said that he only wanted to thanks, Army Chief, Chief Justice, and Chief Minister Punjab. He also revealed that he was demanding the punishment publicly for the murderer of his daughter, then suddenly a guy interrupted and said that it’s lunchtime now.

“To capture the real culprits has become the challenge (for authorities)”, he answered the question about the clapping event for appreciating all the relevant authorities.
