It seems that news stories of rape and murder have become a part of the routine in Pakistan. It is also a very intriguing question that are such stories only emerging after Zainab’s case or have they always been around, just ignored?

After numerous rape and murder cases in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the plague of pedophilia and child sexual abuse has reached the country’s forgotten province as well.

According to reports, a 13-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside her house in Kili Ismail area of Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan.

Hospital authorities at the Civil Hospital Quetta confirmed that the little girl had been subject to sexual abuse before she was strangled to death by the culprit. The 13-year-old girl, Taiba, was living with her elder brother Kamran, as their mother and sister had gone to Punjab.

“When I came back from bazar I found my sister dead inside a room of our house,” Kamran, the elder brother of the victim told the media. “She was an orphan and alone at the time of the incident. My mother and a sister have gone to Punjab.”

According to sources, the police would be forming a very high-level and experienced investigation team which would comprise of officers from the special branch, the counter-terrorism department and the crime branch, just to probe this incident. As per SSP Jawad Tariq, DNA samples would be sent to Lahore for a forensic test. DNA of the little girl’s brother will also be considered.

Even Balochistan’s new Chief Minister, Abdul Qadoos Bizenjo, who is already on a fame-stricken spree in the province’s capital city Quetta, took notice of the issue. Bizenjo gave police officers 48 hours to capture the culprit. The new CM has already gained popularity with the people with his quick-decisions and extempore acts.

Recently, a report was also published on Quetta’s child-sex market, where young boys were being provided to customers in hotels. The detailed report showed that a whole mafia was involved and child-sex charade was being run in the heart of the city. People from Afghanistan would specially visit Quetta, just to confer their needs of ‘bacha-baazi’. After this incident, a lot of crackdowns in the capital city seem imminent.

Little Taiba’s fate was written due to the frustration that prevails in our society. The authorities need to react in a prompt manner and arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
