Ever since the rape and murder of 7-year-old Zainab Ansari, people across the country have gone rogue to the epidemic of child abuse. Every city, every nook, every corner – people try to look out for their children, so no predator lurking gets a hold of them.

However, even after precautions being taken everywhere, the most inhumane act of child rape continues throughout the country. After numerous cases reported in Punjab, Karachi too, fell prey to the heinous crime. As per reports, a 7-year-old girl was raped and strangled to death in Karachi’s Manghopir area.

The little girl had gone missing on Sunday and her dead body was recovered later on from bushes in Manghopir. The family of the little girl had rushed to get her postmortem done, which showed that she had been sexually abused and strangled to death, before being thrown in the bushes. This incident sparked fire in Manghopir and the family of the girl, along with local residents, started protesting against the police, demanding justice for the 7-year-old.

As the protests turned violent, police tried to control the situation by aerial firing, which resulted in the death of one person. In retaliation, the public started hurling stones at the police, injuring 10 colts in the process. With the situation getting out of hand, police had to use teargas. Sindh IG of Police AD Khwaja has ordered a detailed investigation in the incident and the death of the protester.

As per Khurram Shehzad, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf’s representative from Karachi, the man who had been shot dead by the police was a worker of his political party. Now, the police is being held accountable for not one but two deaths.

Rape and child abuse seems to be deeply embedded in our mindsets, where every other day another child is deprived of their honor or life. It is up to the authorities of the country to create awareness programs and other activities that educates the masses about child protection and helps towards ridding Pakistan of this social vice completely.
