SSP Malir Rao Anwar has been sacked over the alleged fake encounter. The police officer came under hot water after the social media outburst over the assassination of 27-year old Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud in an alleged fake encounter near the superhighway. Mehsud was fond of Modelling and had a facebook page with the recent photo shoot.
Mehsud’s case has been featured prominently with thousands of people demanding action against SSP Malir Rao Anwar. A number of demonstrations were held in order to oppose such extrajudicial killings.
Some of the public sentiments we’ve noticed on social media are as follows:

With such public response, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar immediately took notice on previous Friday and sought a report from the police chief of Sindh within a week. Rao Anwar, who is under scrutiny for alleged fake encounter causing the death of Mehsud, was removed from his post by IG Police AD Khawaja after an investigation team recommended he be suspended to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry.
The committee formed to probe the Killing of Mehsud has termed SSP Malir Rao Anwar’s allegations against Mehsud “baseless” and suggested the officer put on the Exit control list, as per news. The committee also declared the FIR presented by Rao Anwar against Mehsud was also bogus.
This is not the first time Anwar has been surrounded by controversy. We’ve seen his involvement in various controversial activities. According to sources, he is also the key player of Land Mafia near satellite towns of Karachi. Contract killing, land grabbing, and fake FIRs are also considered to be his specialty.
We will have to wait to see that,
- Whether the so-called ‘top’ police official will be scrutinized as a murderer?
- Do our courts rule out the symbolic verdict against him to prevent extrajudicial killing in future?
- How will police restore public’s confidence?
