A lot has been going in Pakistan recently, but the Pashtun brethren’s protest sit-in was a monumental protest that the mainstream media failed to cover. The reasons for that are unknown, but 27-year-old Naqeebullah’s eath was the reason for the protest in the first place.

Disgraced cop Rao Anwar, who is on the run, has come back into the limelight after quite a while. After being underground for almost a month in the case that links him with the extra-judicial murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud, Ex-SSP Malir Rao Anwar has written a letter to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, namely the Chief Justice.

In the letter, Rao Anwar has pleaded himself innocent, stating that he had nothing to do with Naqeebullah Mehsud’s encounter and that he was being framed in the case by political higher-ups present in Karachi. Anwar, instead of obeying court orders to appear before it, Anwar has written a letter to Saqib Nisar, where he has demanded ‘protective bail’, which means that the police would not be able to arrest him, instead will be providing him security.

What may come as a shock to many, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar eventually did just that and awarded protective bail to the absconder, who is still under hiding. However, the Chief Justice put one condition on the protective bail that Rao Anwar was to appear before the highest court on Friday, and if he fails to do so, the arrest warrants would re-appear.

Furthermore, Anwar also demanded that a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) be set up, one separate from Police, where he asked that representation of ISI, IB, MI and other agencies be imminent, instead of the police. He re-uttered in the letter that he had nothing to do with the extra-judicial encounter of Naqeebullah Mehsud, and that he was being framed in the encounter for political reasons.

The police has now been ordered to provide Rao Anwar with security so that he could appear before the Supreme Court on Friday. This is one of the most interesting cases in Pakistan, where an absconder is now being treated as a ‘court’s witness’.

Last month, Naqib Mehsud was murdered in cold blood by Ex-SSP Malir Rao Anwar and his police team, who stated that Naqib Mehsud was a member of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. However, what Rao and his team did not know was that Naqib was a social media celebrity, with over 20,000 followers.

Ever since civil society spoke up against Rao Anwar and the Supreme Court took suo-moto action, a police inquiry committee under the leadership of Sanaullah Abbasi had been made against Anwar. The committee came to a result that Anwar and team had killed Naqib in a staged encounter.
