It’s true that most people in Pakistan don’t drink because they are Muslims and it goes against their religious beliefs. But nobody abstains from drinking because it’s prohibited by law.

Justice may be blind, but cops clearly are not as they are often aware of when to take a step back to avoid stepping on the toes of the high and mighty. The laws are created for everyone, from rich to poor and old to young – everyone falls under the scrutiny of cops.

However, in practice, the law is only applied to the poor, at most if a wealthy person is unlucky to be caught can pay their way out at check posts. This has led to rampant corruption among police officials manning check posts, as they try to squeeze those caught with such contraband, regardless of the amount.

In Karachi, it’s quite common that cops are caught at the joints that sell booze and honesty, that’s no surprise to any common citizen. The brown bag that has sharaab is being sold to everyone and not even the cops would do something about it.

Recently, a video circulated on social media that we found quite amusing yet sad that this is how our society has become.

A man was caught with booze in a car and instead of fining the driver, the Punjab police officer wanted to share the drink. It’s unfortunate how our society is turning into a source of entertainment for the masses now and the majority just sits at home and laugh/get disappointed.

Check out the video below!

Naya Pakistan?

People are really outraged with this clip…

What’s your take on this?

When booze was banned by Mr. Bhutto, an exception was made for non-Muslims. They would be issued licenses and allotted a quota. Non-Muslim visiting foreigners would be able to order a drink in their hotel rooms, but the hotels would make them fill out a form saying they needed it for medicinal purposes.

Today, every Tom, Dick, and Harry is out there and drinking openly. Restaurants serve them and there’s no concept of Muslim or non – muslim that would hinder people to drink. We’re not pointing fingers at anyone but guess that’s just how it has become. How can we blame the local public when our own law doesn’t prohibit the consumption of sharaab today?

That was our take on this matter, what do you think about this? Would you care to add your own perception about this? Kindly, let us know in the comments section so we can also come to a conclusion.
