The one authority which made it quite clear throughout these past few years that they are firm on what they state – the provincial watchdog – the Punjab Food Authority. Implemented from 14th August 2017 and onwards, the PFA has imposed a ban on the sale of energy drinks and soft drinks throughout the educational institutes in Punjab.

The beverage manufacturing companies have been informed that they are not allowed to sell cold drinks to educational institutes in Punjab. Additionally, the PFA has instructed the beverage companies not to supply their items to the drink corners, the canteens, and shops present within the 100 meters of institutes.

Noorul Amin Mengal, the Director General of PFA has instructed to fine to those suppliers and manufacturers who breach this instruction. Pakistan, however, is not the first country to impose a ban on soft and energy drinks being consumed in educational institutes – there are 120 countries who have kept the health of children in perspective by imposing such a ban.

The 2017 Punjab Educational Societies Food Standard Regulation includes labeling the food items under different colors, including red, yellow and green. The soft and energy drinks ranked under the red color, proving they are not healthy for humans after getting them checked from experts all around the world.

It is essential for our countrymen to stay on the track of being fit and healthy. Soft and energy drinks have a lot of negative effects and this has been proven scientifically. It is a decent move by PFA to impose such a ban, especially in schools filled with younger beings.

This move will definitely secure our locals from a number of health concerns!
