One lesson they start teaching us early in schools is that we should always respect and care for our elders. However, somebody forgot to send a memo to the Multan Police officials involved in this particular incident. An elderly couple was beaten and harassed on the streets, while they protested in Multan.
According to multiple reports and video evidence, an elderly couple was dragged and beaten while they protested against the Multan Development Authority. This case of police brutality in the modern era was witnessed by many bystanders but nobody came to their help against the police.
The police were summoned by the MDA officials who could not make the 75-year-old Naseem Bibi and her husband leave their house. The MDA officials forced the couple out of their home. When they did not give up and started protesting, police were called in to showcase how barbaric they can get.
The elderly couple was dragged and pushed inside the police van, till they gave up their resistance. It is every Pakistani’s right to protest against injustice and when people tend to voice their opinion, they end up in the back of a police van, forcefully.
The officials involved in the manhandling of the elderly couple are thought to be Chehlak SHO Ghulam Murtaza and his cortege of subordinates. Human Rights groups and other NGOs have sought reports on police brutality, stating that police tends to do as ordered by higher authorities.
However, people on social media remain divided after the incident. Many think that the manhandling of the couple was wrong, while others suggest that nobody should raise questions without knowing the exact reality of the incident.
