Ever since the incumbent government took over, Pakistan’s national carrier, the Pakistan International Airlines has been under fire for mistakes and loopholes in their system. So many incidents have happened in the last year only that have damaged the carrier’s image in the international world.
Overseas Pakistanis make up a huge chunk of the carrier’s customers and an incident happened that has left two families extremely devastated. As reported, the PIA flight from New York to Lahore forgot two dead bodies wrapped in coffins, which were to be received at the Lahore airport.
A man was accompanying his brother’s dead body from JFK airport to Lahore, and on arriving, he was informed that the body had not been loaded with the cargo. Full of grief, the person could do nothing but leave for New York again with his father and brother to locate their loved ones’ dead body.
One of the dead bodies has been enrolled in different procedures since the death took place on October 25. The body which was to be buried today is still in the USA. When the family tried to locate the body on Lahore airport, the only thing they came across was another man from Sialkot, who too was waiting for a body to arrive from New York.
Both the families have been left agonized by PIA’s incomprehensible behavior. Apparently, the bodies were offloaded and not brought along because of a heavy duty cargo consignment of catering items from the US. PIA’s CEO, Musharraf Rasool Cyan, has taken notice of the incident and demanded an inquiry.
“The PIA management regrets the inconvenience caused due to negligence on the part of airline’s ground handling agency at New York Airport and expresses its sympathies to the family members of the deceased persons,” said a PIA spokesman.
It seems that the PIA is prone to errors these days. With the organization being adrift from profit-making, the PIA only makes headlines for its mistakes. One of the bodies which were to arrive will now be buried in Maryland, USA, due to the unprecedented events.
