Just the other day on a fine morning in school, my best friend ran to me and told me something that completely ticked me off and was something I was never a fan of. Preparations for our Science Fair (an event that takes place in our school once a year) were going on in different groups of students. However, I’m going to focus on just one group that has compelled me to come forward and write what I am writing. It was an all Pakistani group consisting of 4 guys, all my classmates.

Now let’s rewind a little bit. Remember when I said my best friend ran to me? Well when he did so, this is what was brought to my notice. When my best friend checked in with our Physics teacher to confirm who was in his group, the 3rd guy whose name was Haseeb from that all Pakistani group was listed in my best friend’s group and my best friend never remembered listing his name down to be in his group.

He was confused. When he told me, I told him “Let’s go ask his so-called group members or should I say, ex-group members”. When we approached those 3 guys that Haseeb thought were very good friends of his, I had no idea about the stack of unplanned lies waiting for me to blanket the truth. They were just blabbering gibberish, I couldn’t take it. I said “Yaar dekho, hum Pakistani hain, hum aik doosray say kyun jhoot bol rahe hain? Kyun aik doosray kay khilaaf hain hum?” When I said that, they finally stepped ahead to unveil the truth.

The leader of the group said, “I removed him from our group and put him in yours (my best friend) because he had sprayed paint on the table and that was causing us trouble with the supervisor” and when I heard that, I quickly turned into a fireball.

You know why? I abominate when I see that us, being from the same country sharing the same stupendous mother tongue decide to backstab each other. People of other nationalities like Philipinos, Saudis etc never tell on each other, it’s like it’s injected into their blood to forever take a bullet for a brother/sister. They never backstab each other or at least not as much as we Pakistanis do.

We treat our own people like trash or sometimes even like we aren’t from the same country even though we are and treat people from other countries as though they were crafted out of Diamonds.

If we ourselves will be against each other like this, the media will take full advantage of it and disintegrate the leftover image of Pakistan and it’s people. If this continues, we can’t/shouldn’t expect the “goray” to treat us any better. We shouldn’t be connected to one another only by means of the same country of birth. We should embrace ourselves, help each other in time of difficulties rather than leaving one behind and continue towards our success. We all need to qualify and help others succeed along with ourselves because before we’re a team or a group, we’re Pakis, we’re one.
