As suggested by Pakistan Cricket men’s team coach Mickey Arthur, the New Zealand coach Mark Coles will train the Pakistan women’s team for their matches coming next month onwards. The appointment was based on Arthur’s friendship with Coles who got on board instantly when approached with the opportunity.
Coles has had a number of coaching experience under his sleeve. The high-performance manager of the Waikato Valley Cricket is taking his interest in international teams and now lands in training our women in green.
Coles will come to Lahore in the beginning of October and will begin the training of our ladies. The series takes place in Dubai where Pakistan women’s team will face the White Ferns. While the coaching gig will help him in developing himself as a coach, it will also contribute towards the growth of women in the field of cricket.
Here’s what Coles had to say about the performance of Pakistan women’s team in the World Cup in England, “It was tough for them, but they competed really well over there. I think they just lost the big moments in those games. They played well, but when the big moments came they couldn’t get the job done. Obviously, the public just wants them to win, like any international team. The team has been developing really nicely so hopefully, we can continue that.”
Coles will be training the women in green to go against New Zealand and the coach already feels a bit strange about it, given how he knows the Kiwis well.
Given how he belongs to the Waikato Valley Cricket and has the experience of training the Northern Districts, he is thankful to the organization which has allowed him to pursue this opportunity.
“They’ve been very good to me. I guess it’s seen as a bit of professional development for me, so I’ll be able to bring back something when I return home.”
Seeing how our women in green didn’t perform well in the last tournament and in fact lost all the matches, this will be an incredible opportunity for them to excel.
