Not a new thing for the students of Punjab University but once again the Punjab University became a battlefield on Monday morning 22 Jan 2018. The clashes between two student unions left several students injured. University administration had to call the police to overcome the situation.

Islami Jamiat e Talaba (IJT) and Baloch students were seen attacking each other with batons and pelting bricks. They broke windows of a number of cars parked in the university premises and burned the chemistry lab. According to the details, Baloch students group and Islami Jamiat e Talaba clashed over a stall that was established for a festival in Electrical Engineering Department.

Being a student of The Punjab University I highly condemn the act. That was not the first time when we saw such clashes, the same thing happened the last year when a clash broke out between IJT and Pashtun students over Pashtun Culture Day and at least seven students were critically injured.

It is the responsibility of the institution to shape and groom the vision of students. Cultural differences should not become a cause for division instead we should celebrate the diversity. It is highly requested by the university administration to take exemplary steps so that students can study in the peaceful and healthy environment. This kind of clashes should be avoided in future so that prestige and pride of university remain unaffected. Patience and tolerance are highly needed in our society. Live and let others live
