So after submitting the final remaining documents at Khyber Medical College, I came out happily and thought all the problems are over. But to my dismay, they weren’t.

As the car strolled out of the gates of University of Peshawar, I spotted a Geo News DSNG, and as someone who has seen it for the first time, I got very excited and informed my aunt very enthusiastically, but her looks changed and she immediately said, “Oh, so now we would be stuck here for a very long time.” And as we turned to the road, she was right, everything was so chaotic and messed up, the traffic was completely blocked.

And then I spotted black clouds emerging from a distance, which meant that I was going to witness the famous ‘Muzahreen ne tire Jala kar roadblock kardi movement’ for the first time in my life. It was very interesting for the first 10 minutes, as all this was new for me, and I even took a couple of pictures and got wicked stares from people around me.

After that, I got to know exactly why everyone was so annoyed. The road that we were stuck on was a road leading to one of the biggest government hospitals in Peshawar, Khyber Teaching Hospital. The ambulance sirens panicked people and with screaming protesters, it was almost unbearable.

When I looked in front, I spotted a handful of people holding banners that I couldn’t read, and they were huddled around a specific spot, and around that area where DSNG vans of Express News, Dunya, Samaa, 92, Aaj, Dawn and every news channel of Pakistan that you could think of was parked in the middle of the road, making it even more difficult for traffic to keep moving forward.

And then at that instant, a man started shouting in a loudspeaker in front of a hospital, and continued screaming for about 15 minutes, and ending his speech with the Nara ‘KPK Hukoomat Murdabad’. And as the car moved a bit further, reports of every single news channel were standing in front of burnt tires and probably exaggerating the size of the crowd which was no more than 45 people!

Although the protest was against the KPK government which has failed to control dengue fever, a very serious issue in KPK, which needs to be resolved quickly by the officials but blocking a road is a solution to no problem.

It’s very disappointing that Pakistan, where Muslims live in a majority, is deprived of the basic teaching of our Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who instructed his companions to pick thorns and rocks from the road as they were walking so others won’t suffer. The Prophet (PBUH) even prohibited the blocking of the road at times of prayers, then how can people be so ignorant and cause so much pain to others!

We need to understand that no blocking of the road will ever turn our land into Naya Pakistan and no breaking news will do any benefit to the well-being of Pakistan. Naya Pakistan will only emerge if we learn to care about others before ourselves!
