A timely wakeup call for both Imran Khan and PTI. A Lesson for Imran Khan and PTI, if you violate your own principle of anti-dynasty politics you can’t win the elections. The result of NA-154 By-Election an eye opener for PTI and Imran Khan before it’s too late. PTI should reconsider their policies and tactics. PTI still needs to learn the art to win an election.
Something somewhere had gone horribly wrong, Imran Khan should be worried. “Muje Kun Nikala” narrative aimed at persuading PMLN base voter. NA 154 fight back by PMLN had shaken PTI and its supporters. Imran Khan still relying on his old rants.
Imran Khan and PTI should learn fast before it’s too late. PTI leadership and ticket aspirants need a serious jolt of caffeine. PTI must start constituency base politics. PTI parliamentary board is now on the hook for selecting best candidates for GE 2018. The parliamentary board should decide the tickets and start giving out where they are sure. Tell them to go directly to the public (door to door interaction) listen to people problem and tell public how they can solve their problem after winning the election. Please go to your constituency and make sure your ground teams are in place by UC.
Imran Khan should tell his candidates, that appearance on talk shows must be lesser and more en ffort should be put idoor to door campaign. Avoid photo sessions in Bani Gala. If you found common people comments on PTI, you will hear most of them will say Imran Khan is the only hope at current situation but his team doesn’t know the art of interacting with the public. Making selfies with Imran Khan and just speaking on talk shows, you can’t win the election. The expectation that Imran Khan comes to every constituency and campaigns personally for every candidate is preposterous introspection needed by PTI on how to build narrative, campaign and manage election appropriately.
Punjab election strategy needs to look over at PTI high command. PTI can’t go into the new 2018 GE with unknown variables. Expecting Imran Khan to deliver votes all the time is ridiculous beyond comprehension. After 2013 GE PTI did everything to ensure it would not let the same thing happen in 2018 election; be victorious, yes go figure it out. Rigging excuse will not work anymore. PTI must review and dissect the results by polling stations to have a winning strategy for 2018 GE.
For the last 3 years, Khan insisted his party will form next Federal Government. This was going to be a tsunami, he famously declared. The extravagant claims made some tactical sense. To lure voters, Khan had to persuade them he is capable of winning. Jalsas, as the campaign showed a limited effect. Colorful rallies are key events but they are only good at motivating an existing voter base. Rallies are a poor mean of measuring support and persuading new voters of a party worth.
A larger rally in a city, where perhaps 100,000 people turn up, only represents a fraction of the total vote where each constituency has up to 350,000 registered voters. Same thing happened in NA 154, PTI lost the margin of 27,609 votes according to provisional results. 20000 to 25000 margin win for any party in each constituency will create a huge impact in General Election 2018.
However, after the PMLN victory in the Lodhran by-poll, Imran Khan said every set back is an opportunity to analyze one’s mistakes. Imran Khan tweeted that successful people, institutions and nations always learn from their failures.
Exactly the right message after a shock defeat. Do learn lessons and hold people accountable. The battle is lost but the real war lies ahead. Fight again and fight harder. The lesson is blowing in the wind for PTI “Think, Understand and Do something…. Time is short and Islamabad is too far.” As long as you keep learning from your defeats you will always keep coming back, stronger than before.
However, it is better to foresee shortcomings and amend them before it is too late. Ignoring obvious problems is never a good strategy. Learn quickly and Act fast because the nation can’t afford the failure of Imran Khan again.
