In Pakistan, the media highlights everything. Sometimes it ends up to benefit the person who is being reported, and sometimes it goes totally against them. Recently, a Pakistani female social activist has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Muniba Mazari, a renowned Pakistani female social activist, model, artist, and a public motivator, has been subject to harsh criticism by Pakistanis. News that came out a few days ago showed that Mazari’s Ex-husband, an officer of the Pakistan Airforce and an Airblue Pilot, Khurram Shahzad, had sued her ex-wife for Rs. 1 crore for defamation.
Many sources and video evidence have shown that Muniba suggested her husband did not stay by her side after her accident, which led to her paralysis. Muniba had claimed that he was a very orthodox person who used to abuse her mentally and some have even suggested that she hinted physical abuse as well.
However, in the news released, Muniba’s ex-husband has claimed that it was the activist who wanted the couple to part, so she could lead her life alone the way she wanted without any restrictions. He said that after her accident, she changed completely, and wanted to be overly outgoing, which he and his family were not open to. The couple also distanced because they could not have a child together and had to opt for adoption.
All this being fine an dandy, people have rediscovered a video interview from some time back, where Muniba Mazari does not stop praising her husband and his qualities, bringing in a complete contradiction of her recent statements. She has tried to show her ex-husband as the villain in their story, but she has used him to gather fame and public affection in the past as well.
In the video, Muniba claims that whatever she was today, was due to the unconditional support of her husband. On the other hand, while speaking at a TEDx conference, she said that her husband left her right after the accident. These contradictory statements are not going well with the general public who claim that she is pulling one publicity stunt after another, just to gain empathy.
With these contradictions, Muniba’s fans have been left heartbroken, due to her views on the issue and her husband. On one hand, she calls him her best friend, but then she goes on and calls him a greedy and unsupportive person. With many court confrontations to take place between the two in coming times, it would be interesting to see where this defamation case goes.
