Hardly any news these days is a good news. To everyone’s shock and dismay, the Economic Survey of Pakistan (2016-2017) revealed that the literacy rate dropped by a staggering 2%and so did the Net Enrollment Rate by 3%.

What about all the educational reforms that have been promised by the government?

The educational reforms initiated by the Government could not be implemented due to the instability of the state, the stereotype that education is attributed to the resourceful and it doesn’t make it to the priority list. Well, here we have a good news. The students of the University of Lahore have taken the ownership to play their part in resolving this issue.

A project by the name of “Pakistan Book Bank and Students Coalition for Literacy” has been launched on 16th of March, 2018, with the mission to eliminate illiteracy from Pakistan by providing books to the ‘disadvantaged’ and ‘less resourceful’ people. Their main goal is to promote educational proclivity by providing the unprivileged with free books. They sure have been successful in building a direct and open platform for both the helpers and the needy.
