As Pakistan is heading towards another general election, the politicians are back with their typical promises of making ‘Naya Pakistan’. People living in the rural areas are usually the target of this sort of politicians because these state actors consider the public uneducated and illiterate.

Yesterday, when the nominated candidate of PML-N, Jamal Khan Leghari visited his constituency D.I.G.Khan after the span of 5 years, the constituents conveyed their displeasure to him. As soon as he reached the area, local residents stopped him in the way and questioned him about the progress he made for NA-192. The people of Roghan area of his constituency asked Jamal Leghari that why should we vote for you? In response, Leghari said that he came to pay the condolences to a family, not for votes. The video went viral on the social media in which it can clearly be seen that Leghari stopped the man from filming it.

In reply to this statement, a person from the crowd asked him, “How did you remember to console all of a sudden?” The former legislator then responded to the crowd harshly and said, “Aik Vote Ki Parchi Per Itni Akar? Or Wo Bhi Jo Tum Apne Qabile”. Laghari also claimed that this 42 kilometers road was built by him, he added, “Don’t tell me about the democracy, I know it better than you”. To his surprise, a man from the crowd said that the road is our democratic right, it wasn’t built because of your personal favor.

The crowd replied to him that they will answer him on 25 July through their vote. At the end of the video, it can be seen that supporters of Jamal Leghari had beaten the protestors for questioning him continuously.

It is good to see that the people are now taking a stand against the politicians. As seen in the video, the crowd simply asked the former senator about his absence from the scenario from last five years and now when the general elections are right around the corner, he is visiting the area for no reason. We can just hope that this practice would set an example for other locals so that they could also raise questions when electives come to visit their constituency.
