Almost everybody is aware of the extreme clashes that took place between Sindhi and Baloch students at the Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad back in May. The riot ended up ruining a lot of students’ careers, with the university either expelling them or booking them for violent conduct.

Students of the university had been staging a protest against the administration for their harsh decision of expelling 8 students over a fight. With all the other groups including the Sindhis, Seraikis, Punjabis, and Baltistanis backing out, it was only the Baloch community that kept their protest alive after the university reopened.

In an unprecedented occurring, the Quaid-e-Azam University administration called upon the Islamabad Police to intervene the protest and end it. This led to a clash between the Baloch students and the police, with dozens beaten up and arrested. The reason Baloch students had been protesting was to revert the expelling of their brethren for the May 20 incident.

People on social media have lamented the situation due to the harsh nature and actions of police on the Baloch students. The students said that the fight on May 20 was started by Sindhi students and the Baloch merely acted in self-defense. Almost 40 students are said to have been arrested today.

Islamabad police raided the QAU campus, hostels, and other places, beating the Baloch students and arresting them. The rustication of the 8 Baloch students for the May 20 fight has created a bigger issue than what both the community and the QAU administration expected.
