Yeah, it’s official that most prestigious colleges are offering Game of Thrones related courses. Due to the dramatic popularity, the show has gained after its premiere in 2011. The show has become some sort of world obsession. So, it’s no surprise that the professors have now taken the discussion into classrooms.

So, here’s an opportunity to cash all the time you’ve spent watching the show, memorizing every single theory and detail. These are the 12 colleges that think that we can learn something from George R.R. Martins’s “A Song of Ice and Fire ” and its exhilarating presentation.

1. Harvard University

The course namely, “The Real Game of Thrones: From Modern Myths to Medieval Models” will teach the medieval world of Eurasia from 400 to 1500 CE in context of Martin’s novels.

Sean Gilsdorf, Administrative Director and Lecturer on Medieval Studies at the varsity described the course as; “A set of archetypal characters at the heart of Game of Thrones – the king, the good wife, the second son, the adventurer, and so on – with distinct analogues in medieval history, literature, religion, and legend”. 

2. University of California, Berkeley

This course is one of the best yet in this course students will learn the dynamics of languages used in GOT and will also learn how to develop one of their own. “The Linguistics of Game of Thrones and the Art of Language Invention,” will be taught by David J. Peterson whose the actual mind behind GOT linguistics.

3. Northern Illinois University

The students in this course will learn about the linkage of society and GOT. The course “Game of Thrones, Television and Medieval History.” requires a good understanding of the show with perspective on controversial aspects of the show.

4. Roanoke College

The institute allows anthropology students to take a course on GOT, unlike other courses this one is regarded to study of the show and its linkage with anthropology.

5. University of Tulsa

In this course “Game of Thrones and Disability,” students are required to study parts of A Song of Ice and Fire” to support their views on the portrayal of disability in the show.

6. Tulane University

In this course, for freshman’s topics covered are the contribution of violence and sexuality while the writing technique and style George R.R. Martin is also discussed.

7. University of Virginia

Special topics for literature course on Game of Thrones discusses how the show is different from books.

8. University of New Hampshire

“Game of Thrones: Power and Politics in Renaissance Europe” are for history enthusiasts. Students take a look at events which inspired the series and what was going on in Europe when the series took place.

9. University of British Columbia

It’s a dense literature course which requires study of both books and series.

10. Drexel University

The course started in 2012 and straight went from series season 1 to books.

11. Rice University

This course is mainly based on Cersei’s quote “when you play the game of thrones you win or you die.” comparing it with historical entities.

12. The State University of New York at Cortland
