Corruption, in the sub-continent, they say is a gift given to the people who live here by the British, who ruled this place for almost two hundred years. Be it India or Pakistan, whoever becomes a part of the government, as a bureaucrat or as a legislator, never keep their hand off the mouth-watering opportunities that come as perks of the job.

As for Pakistan, every once in a while, a case so jawdropping comes forward that it goes beyond one’s comprehension. Corruption in our country is run of the mill stuff but some people just go over the top, mostly ending up in smokes, like the famous Finance Secretary from Balochistan, Mushtaq Raisani. Authorities had found valuables worth almost Rs. 75 crores.

If you thought that was a massive loot by a grade-20+ officer, you won’t believe how much this government servant was able to save up in his service, working just as a 16-grade employee. As per news, NAB has just nabbed a former 16-grade govt. servant after they discovered Rs. 33 Crores from his house.

The house of the officer was located in the EME society in Lahore. The officer’s house was raided on a tip where all the money was stored. Further investigation and evidence revealed that the government officials had quite a few properties to his name as well.

It has been learnt that the money inside the officer’s house had Rs. 10 crores in Pakistani currency, while Rs. 3.5 crores were stored in 11 different currencies. The remaining amount was best invested in prize bonds, similar to that of Mushtaq Raisani.

The money was said to be so much that authorities had to bring separate bags just to shift the money. NAB also is pondering over chances of other raids related to this one, as the arrested employee might bring new evidence of partners.

NAB has decided to keep the officer’s name anonymous as part of the theory that a 16-grade officer could not have made so much money alone, without the help of top bureaucratic officials. It is also being thought that this money might belong to a senior officer as well, who may have partnered up with his junior. Further investigation in the case is ongoing right now.

At the other end, the Director-General NAB Lahore decided to distribute Rs. 17 crores among almost 1500 victims of the famous Double Shah scam. The ceremony took place at the Thokar Niaz Beg Complex. Up until now, NAB has distributed Rs 1.2 billion among almost 6500 scam victims of the Double Shah scheme.
