According to a 2011 poll of experts by the Thomson Reuters Foundation Poll, Pakistan is ranked the 3rd most dangerous country for women in the world. With each passing day, the abnormal practices to control women is exercised under restrictive codes by established institutions of our society. The amoral customary practices include domestic violence, sexual abuse, harassment, honor killing, acid attacks, dowry murder, being burned alive, forced marriages and last year, another form of practice has been included in the list, parading naked in public!
In 2017, a girl was forced to strip naked in Dera Ismail Khan by a group of people. One of the abusers filmed her while she was paraded in the streets of the village. According to media reports, it was an act of revenge because the victim’s brother gifted a mobile phone to a girl from rival tribal. The case became more controversial when PTI’s MNA, Dawar Khan Kundi accused fellow member and Revenue Minister of Khyber Pakhtun Khwah Ali Amin Gandapuri. But he denied the allegations and the victim’s family was left behind in the political drama.
On 30th May 2018, another case was reported in Hashatnagri, Peshawar where a 16-year-old girl was stripped naked after a disagreement between a man and her brother. According to SHO Wajid Khan, Mazhar and Zafar Ali, the girl’s brother had a dispute over some issue. When Zafar and Shakila Bibi (mother of the girl) filed a case against Mazhar in Gulfat Hussain Shaheed Police Station, at the same moment, the girl was coming back home from her uncle’s house. Mazhar stopped her on the street who then stripped and beaten her.

Khan added that the area residents rescued her while the accused fled away from the site of the incident. The victim’s family reported the incident immediately in the same police station. After the registration of FIR, two allies of the accused had been arrested by the police while the investigation is on its way to arrest the main assailant.
The girl’s family has claimed that they are being pressurized to settle the case at home. On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwan’s IG, Salahud Din Mehsud has taken the notice of the incident as well. We can just hope that this unethical and wicked tradition of ‘revenge rape’ would be encountered as soon as possible so that it can’t get rooted in Pakistan.
