Gilgit-Baltistan, the hub of Pakistan’s tourism, has no alternative when it comes to natural landscapes, beautiful mountainous terrains, lakes, and cold weather. Living in Pakistan, it’s every person’s dream to visit GB at least once — many who have, claim it is a trip of a lifetime.

Every year, not just from Pakistan, but people from all over the world come and visit Gilgit-Baltistan, regardless of which season it is. One of the most naturally gifted places in the world, Gilgit-Baltistan’s tourism has gone down a notch ever since 9/11, simmering the number of foreigners who visited the heaven-like-land.

GB is one of the only places where all four seasons can be witnessed in their natural state. If you had planned on visiting GB this winter, you might want to reconsider and make a change of plans.

According to a notification launched by the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Babusar road that leads to all tourists hot-spots in the region has been closed for all types of traffic.

The Deputy Commissioner / District Magistrate of Diamer, in the notification, cited reasons that could potentially harm tourists who visit GB. The notification said that traveling to Chilas and Babusar had become dangerous due to snowfall starting on Babusar Top, which makes the roads slippery and impossible to travel on.

Furthermore, security has been pulled back from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa side of Gilgit-Baltistan, which paves way for kidnappings, robberies, killings and other vices that may prevail without ample security for tourists.

As said in the notification, the roads to Babusar have been blocked since 4th November and will remain closed until further orders of the government. So travelers who had wished to see snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan must think up an alternative destination for their winter vacations.
