The landscape of professions in Pakistan is changing drastically. There was a time when children wanted to grow up and become doctors and engineers, but if you ask a child today what he’d want to be, he’d probably say a CSS officer, a bureaucrat.

Even though the word CSS is on every Pakistani’s lips, the majority does not know that it stands for Central Superior Services. The CSS exams conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission takes place every single year in February.

To pass the toughest and the most prestigious exam in the country, one has to clear all 6 compulsory subjects, along with the 5 options they choose. For every paper, a student must get 40% of the marks and when combined, the aggregate score should be 50% at least.

Since the last 4-5 years, there has been a pathetic outcome of the result, as hardly 3-4% of all aspirants attempting the paper make it through the written phase and make themselves eligible for the interview. However, all that could have changed, but with the latest press release from the FPSC, there will be NO changes in the rules or curriculum.

According to a press release by the FPSC, the following information on social media is INCORRECT: As per the Secretary FPSC and news hubs of Pakistan, the FPSC has made two relaxations which will make life easier for CSS aspirants. First of all, the tough criteria of appearing in 2 exams in one day will be changed immediately. From now on, only one paper will be held per day, so students can relax their minds after a 3-hour session.

So now, the aggregate score for English Essay and Composition will NOT be counted together. If it did, it would not matter how much an aspirant scores in his Essay or Composition individually, to clear the subject, one would have to score 80/200 combined in Essay and Composition.

If the press release is authentic, there will be no relaxation for the aggregate score of English Essay and Composition, neither will the FPSC be holding one paper a day. The rules have not changed.
