It seems that 2018 will not stop producing one heart-wrenching case after another. From Zainab, Asma, Zafir to Naqib, innocent lives have been wasted due to one reason or the other. To add to the list, the Principal of Islamia College Shabeqadar, Charsadda, was shot to death by one of his own students.

According to Reuters, on Monday, a dispute erupted between the principal and the student inside the vicinity of the college. The student, who murdered his principal, Shaheed Hafiz Sareer Khan, was taken to task after missing a lot of classes.

The reason? He was a part of Tehreek-e-Labaik Ya RasoolAllah’s Faizabad Sit-In and could not attend college. On being confronted by his principal, that why he had been skipping college, he claimed that he was an ‘Aashiq-e-Rasool’ and did not come for the sake of protecting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s honor.

After this, a fight erupted between the principal and the student. As per local police chief Zahoor Afridi, this is when the student took out a pistol and shot his principal 6 times, murdering him in cold blood. “Obviously now he is going to say that he (the principal) committed blasphemy. This is a very unfortunate incident,” said Afridi.

When he was asked about the reason of murdering his principal, he said that the principal had committed blasphemy, by not giving him a waiver for the holidays he had taken due to the Namoos-e-Rasool protest.

The protest, which brought the capital Islamabad to a standstill, ended in clashes between police and demonstrators that killed seven people and injured over 200. It also led the government to back down and accept the resignation of a minister accused of blasphemy.

In a video recorded during the arrest, the student shows no remorse, when he speaks in Pashto, saying: “I committed this murder and I accepted it. It was ordered by God,” proclaimed the student.

The word blasphemy has been distorted in Pakistan and people are using it to their benefit, wherever they can. Some are scoring political points through it, while others are taking lives, ruining nothing but their aakhirat.
