Eden Housing Ltd. was a well known real estate company in Pakistan. It had been in business for more than 33 years and launched many housing and commercial projects in the vicinity of Lahore and other areas of Punjab. Eden Housing has done the biggest fraud in the history of housing schemes with at least 7500 families in the name of different housing projects in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Islamabad.
They have looted at least 15 billion rs. from the poor families. They launched 10+ projects in the name of housing schemes between 2009 to 2012. They promised that possession of houses/plots will be given after 3.5 years of booking. They have looted the poor people not only once but many times in the name of development, possessions and market value. Now even in 2018 nobody is able to get anything from Eden. People filed so many complaints in the last 6 years in Courts and in NAB, still waiting for something to be done by the authorities.
The poor families who thought that they will have them on homes are still struggling to get justice from the higher authorities. Many of the persons have sold their precious belongings like jewelry, household items and many more things to pay the installments of their homes/plots. Now people are left with nothing. People are still living in rented homes and paying a heavy amount of rent every month just because they do not have their own home for which they have wished 10 years back.
People want the same promised developed plots/homes or in case of refund, they want amount as per today’s market value which is at least 5 times more than the time of booking in 2008-2010. Now NAB has taken the matter after 4 years of continuous complaints. They have promised to the victims many times in the past 6 months and people are hoping that they will get something. NAB has given deadlines to Eden to fulfill the promises made to the people but Eden has been failed to do so. As per NAB officials, they are working on this issue but they have not given any time frame when the issue will be resolved.
Things are far more worst than that. People paid the amount of their homes/plots 8-10 years back when the value of money was more than as of today’s value. Now the property value is at least 6 times more than 2008 when people booked their homes/plots. Even if people get their original amount back they will not be able to purchase anything in that amount. And who will compensate the amount which people are paying in the form of rent because they do not have their own homes? And what about the mental torture that people have faced for 10 years because of Eden?
There are many questions which are unanswered by the concerned authorities. Why was LDA (Lahore development authority) sleeping while Eden was doing fraud for the past 10 years? Who’s responsibility is to check the land mafia and housing schemes in Lahore? Many people went to LDA to complain about Eden but also they got nothing from them as well. Why was the Govt of Punjab asleep during all this period? Why did NAB not start their actions when they received the first complaint 4-5 years back? There are many questions which are unanswered.
Doctor Amjad is the owner of Eden Housing and he is Samadhi of Iftikhar M. Choudhry Ex-Chief Justice. Now Doctor Amjad and his family flee from the country even their passports were blacklisted. As per NAB, they have traveled on Canadian passports. NAB requested to Ministry of the interior to put Doctor Amjad’s name in ECL but the ministry did not respond on that.
People are now worried who have paid all the installments and still waiting for any development in the case. Media is also not giving proper coverage to this issue. People are left with no choice but to protest against this fraud and highlight this issue on social media.
