I and some of my friends at Indus University decided to do a donation drive at Tharparkar. So, we started collecting donations by going out on busy streets and restaurants such as Chai Shai, Kaybees, Alamgir, Hussainabad, Tariq Road, Boat Basin. We asked people to donate the possible amount of money to help the people of Tharparkar so that they can also enjoy Eid this year as we all do here.

Alhamdulillah in just 3 weeks, we collected almost 300k. Our target was to donate ration, water, clothes and other basic needs to almost 200 families but thanks to Almighty we got enough to donate 400 families. This was the first time we did something big. We have conducted donation drives in past but they were limited to Karachi only and we never went out on the streets before, our team was feeling awkward but we had a pure mission ‘to get as much donation as we can’.

We use to go out on streets every single day in different locations and Alhamdulillah we got a good response as well. People here in Karachi are so helpful some people even took our contact numbers and donated powder milk for the newborn babies and clothes. We finally set for Tharparkar on 10 June 2018 after 9hrs of nonstop traveling.

When we reached Tharparkar where we gave them tokens and donated almost 260 ration bags, 200 water bottles 1.5ltr each, almost 500 clothes used and new, 200k worth powder milk and other basic things to make them happy. Hindus and Muslim live together over there, so besides religion, we give out the charity to everyone.

It really made our hearts cry when we saw how they were even living, their condition was so bad. They had to drink the same water where a cow poops, the kids were starving and some people told us that they had even started eating plants now. It was 45-51 Celsius over there, we were continuously soaking our clothes and towels in waters to keep our self a bit cool as it was burning!

The sand was as hot as fire and children didn’t even have slippers. Tharparkar truly needs our attention, we have arranged a temporary relief for 2-4 months but something should be done for long-term. The name of people involved in this drive is Mohammed Burhan, Maaz ul Bari, Asad Khan, Shahrukh Azhar, Ali Ayaz, Saqib Rehman, Ali Jamal, Ali Mehdi, Hassan Ahmed, Kashaf bhai, Jimmy, Mohammad Yaseen, Shazaib Khan, Aziz bhai and few more.
