We are living in a very pitiless world where it is very dodgy to live a serene life. Among various factors that have made our life thorny in Pakistan, one of them is protocol culture. Police and its subsidiaries might not be able to protect the people from getting robbed or even killed, but they are proficient in protecting VIPs.

The incident that happened in Karachi depicts the same protocol mentality found in our country. It also shows the bravery of the man making a video of the policemen poking him to stop recording. The situation might have got scarier if he had stopped. The same video got viral and they are out of their jobs now.

The interesting thing is that it was a judge’s son – better be called ‘Sahabazada’ – who was rolling on the road. Most of the time, one cannot expect it from someone who had a background of law, but exceptions are always there especially when it comes to Karachi.

These VIPs are wrong from every angle. On one hand, they consume public money and on the other, they try to threaten the citizens. In this case, it is obvious that the policemen were asked by the VIP to curse and crush the man videoing his protocol.

As we go out of our homes and see police vehicles escorting some VIP, it is better to stay away from them. We have seen in the past, people bearing the brunt of the protocol. The case of Tahir Malik is in front of everyone who got killed by Gillani’s guards.

If you have got on these guards’ radar, it is better to start recording them and put it on social media like the sensible man did in this case. There is no need to indulge in intense debate with policemen. In the contemporary time, this is the aptest way to defy protocol culture in Pakistan. Moreover, it will cause VIP culture to mend its ways instead of threatening and showing people how powerful they are.
