Social media crimes are increasing day by day, although the government has made an attempt to reduce the number of social media crimes in the shape of The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 but how to enforce it is another question.

In the last days, the renowned author of Pakistan Sibteali was bullied and harassed by some fake IDs on Instagram, but later they came to know that it was his own friend Hamza Waqas who was doing this. So it is very difficult to stop crimes like these and bringing the real person behind the bars. But the real cause is that the people even don’t know whom to complain they just sit back and think that there is no institution to solve their problems.

Now how to stay away from Cyber crimes. First of all, choose strong passwords and change them regularly. Never use the same password more than once and at more than one website. Also enable a two-step verification on all the online platforms that offer this feature (Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail do) this can help secure your account. As soon as you feel someone has used your account, change the passwords for all your accounts, not just the one that was hacked. As soon as you see this happening to inform your family and friends about this act so that they don’t communicate with the hacker.

Do not accept his demands. The harassment has turned into blackmailing and the hacker is demanding money in return for your private data, do not hand over the money. Do not give in. There is high probability that they will try to blackmail you again, and you can never be sure that they have deleted all the copies of your private data

And if your friend is a victim help him and tell him about all these strategies. Cyber crimes are the largest issue nowadays, and you should defend yourself against it by following these steps because it can even lead to depression, hypertension, and suicide
