” Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” – Thomas  Huxley

Procrastination, in the most simple words, means the delay to do tasks because we consider them difficult; or we don’t tend to like them or the tasks are so much stress that we don’t want to give attention to them which in the long term causes us more stress. One may feel like he is running from stress but ends jumping deep into it. It’s like trying to avoid eating your vegetables but end up eating them in the end.

If we are to discuss procrastination let me give you an example. Consider a student named Andy who has some assignments due on a certain date. Maybe he tends to dislike sitting on a desk and doing the assignments so what he does is leave the work until the eleventh hour and then he becomes so stressed that he doesn’t even do it at all. Thus, in the end, he hasn’t done anything.

Let me give you another example. Suppose we want to learn a particular skill but when we start the work it becomes so distasteful at times that we don’t even want to do that sort of work and end up doing it for at most two or three days and don’t even tend to make a habit out of it, in the long run, learning nothing. We forget that a pearl becomes a pearl after many clashes in the ocean.

From these simple examples, you can understand that procrastination has no single source. Most people who love to do things in a perfect way or those who think they have enough time for doing a particular activity (just like me) tend to fall victim to it. But don’t you worry this problem also has a solution.

How to Overcome Procrastination?

There are no simple steps to overcome this as I can’t say you Hey! let me make you unlazy and I don’t expect you to follow all the steps that I would mention also because we don’t tend to change in a single day. Changes come to us after months or years but all we can do is develop habits or at least know the habits which we can develop within ourselves to overcome procrastination. Following are some of the steps:

1. Keep things simple:

Tend to keep your life situations very simple. Don’t think too much. I tend to think a lot and I still do and let me tell you I get very unhappy at times. I started blogging to keep myself engaged with the audience and to know their views and get rid of unhappiness because happiness is a very small part of our life and it requires a constant struggle to be achieved. Just think of everyday tasks as simple and keep telling your self that I can do them in order to completely do them.

2. Focus on long-term goals:

We humans by our very nature always tend to find comfort in every task that we do. To tell you the truth I only read a single article to write about this topic. Similarly, we tend to focus on short-term pursuits; getting short-term benefits.

3. Make a routine:

I always thought that making a routine and following it is easy but in the long run, it tends to become very difficult and hectic. I personally made a routine at time-tune and could only follow it for fifteen days or so and then tended to leave it and ultimately stopped following it. Actually, the problem is that our mind takes some time to adjust to the routine and I failed to give it that time.

I have done blogging for a month and now this has become a part of my routine and during my vacation, all I wanted to do was to find a laptop and write something. My fingers become tired and weary by just sitting idle.

4. Develop good habits:

This is the hardest thing to do. We all have good and bad within ourselves to tell you the truth. You can’t be all good because you are not an Angel but there is a way to overcome bad habits and develop good ones. Whenever you don’t complete a task and are feeling lazy try to do a good deed like giving some charity or doing a good deed that you like. Then automatically you will overcome your laziness and tend to complete your assignments or any other types of tasks.

5. Reward and Forgive Yourself:

I would say that be easy on yourself. It will take some time to overcome procrastination and you would tend to fail a lot but in the end, you would conquer it because when you were a baby you learned to walk step by step and it took at least six to eight months. Then why can’t you try now? Reward yourself with an ice-cream or something when you tend to complete any task and if you fail to forgive yourself because at that time you are reborn because you have another chance to try again.

Conclusion:

This is all I would say about this topic and I would wish you the best in your struggle against it and would urge you to take that single step for your journey of a thousand miles and by God’s blessing, you would emerge victorious.
